From June 13 to 15, the Association of Japanese Business Studies will hold its 10th annual meeting in Washington DC, hosted by American University under the theme of Making Global Partnerships Work.Papers, workshops, panels and symposia at the meetings cover the Japanese business system and its economic, political, social and legal environments. Issues include business policy, organization and management, human resources management, finance and accounting, businessgovernment relations, Japan's international trade foreign direct investment in Japan or by Japanese firms and Japanese business relations in all continents of the world.
This year has in particular sought papers on themes of potential interest to a Washington, D.C. professional audience. The theme, Making Global Partnerships Work, will be explored from both policy and practical perspectives. Our desire is to promote participation from a wide spectrum of research and practical disciplines. Along with the various individual sessions, keynote speakers will include:
There will be panels on many topics, including the following:
- Mr. Michel Camdessus, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund.
- Max Chapman, Chair of Nomura.
- Ambassador William Clark, President of Japan Society.
- Takashi Chiba, Director, Hitachi Co.
In addition, there will be a doctoral student panel as part of a Young Scholars Program designed to bring together young researchers interested in the study of Japanese business. The purpose is to permit those at the start of their career to share their research experiences with each other as well as with their senior colleagues, and to discuss career management, including ways to conduct more creative research and to get that research published in major journals.
