Samsung Electronics go up market

Time Europe's report on South Korean Samsung Moving Upmarket reveals a company on the ascendency in a crazy risky market.

"...only a few years ago (Samsung) was known as a mass marketer of cheap TVs and VCR's, the kind you bought off a shipping pallet if you couldn't afford a Sony or Mitsubishi. Since 1997, however, Samsung has begun rubbing shoulders with the market leaders in high-end cell phones, DVD players, elegant flat plasma TVs and a wide range of other consumer products. These gadgets are sometimes less expensive than those of Japanese or Finnish competitors but by no means inferior..."

Of all Asian economies, South Korea has been the leader by a long way in the past year. It's stock market has also led the way of recovery for Asia. Samsung may just have found the magic strategic potion for Asian exporters today..
