The APMF Annual Conference is designed for managers, professionals and researchers working in all areas relating to the enhancement of business and management in the Asia Pacific. It's focus is on professional networking and exchange of ideas, learning and knowledge. The eight major subthemes are designed to organize paper presentations and workshops, but most importantly to combine together to provide a unique and valuable learning experience in Asian strategy and business.

The conference is designed for local and international managers with responsibility for Asian markets or operations, business strategists, management and business consultants, market researchers, business management academics and researchers, and marketing and HRD professionals.

The subthemes are (in no particular order): Market Research in the Asia Pacific, Organizational Development in Asia, Marketing Strategy, Macroeconomics and Business Strategy Public and Corporate Governance, Branding in Asia, Asia's E-economy, and An Asian approach to business and management.

The Asia Pacific Management Forum was the first Web resource developed specifically for professionals and researchers concerned with Asia-Pacific management business strategy, marketing, economics and organizational development. Our mission has stood the test of time, and the APMF now reaches around 2,500 unique visitors daily.

Our beginnings were as a research site established to feature local and international research articles and to develop some now highly regarded Asia Pacific Special Issues for our initial sponsor MCB University Press. However, not only researchers and academics found value in the resource, but also working managers, professional strategists and consultants. As a result, we transformed into a resource which today is designed to interpret the implications of research for business managers, and to provide down to earth grassroots experience for researchers from managers and business people themselves. We endeavour to meet this need by a mixture of what we call research, market, and street intelligence

The Annual Conference has grown over the 6 years of our existance from very informal meetings of sponsors, columnists and editors in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong to last year's conference which was attended by over 40 managers, marketing, branding and strategy professionals, journalists, academics, market researchers and consultants over 3 days in Bangkok.

For the first time this year following many requests and suggestions, we are incorporating a research paper stream and a workshop stream to further enhance the experience. However, the soul of past conferences - informal exchange of ideas and networking - will remain. The APMF conference will continue to provide maximum opportunities for networking in a variety of local settings, and paper sessions and workshops emphasise interaction and participation.

As a "virtual" enitity we are also taking advantage of the Internet to allow presenters to get up to the date information on the progress of their paper reviews, to publish summaries of papers before and in full afterwards, and to provide special Web discussion forums for discussion of papers and workshops both for the 3 month period leading up to the conference and after.

Last years event with a minimum of notice and very limited publicity attracted over 40 participants from 15 countries, who shared in highly valuable discussions in a variety of venues with the emphasis on character rather than formality, a lively social program, and the occassional more formal occasion. The emphasis continues to be on providing a variety of highly charged learning experiences. With dedicated staff organizing the event this year in KL and Bangkok, plus an enthusiastic advisory board, we expect 100 to 200 to attend in 2001.

We can promise it will be a conference very different from any you have attended before!
