The US war against terrorism obfuscated by nationalism

The marking of the first anniversary of the attack on US centres of commerce, military and government is now behind us. My thoughts were with the innocent victims, and with the unassailable triumph of humanity, as acts of bravery and courage subsequent to the attacks were able to overcome an act of hatred. I only wish that the coverage from TV networks and statements from US leaders had more to say to the world rather than the US alone. Most accept that the attacks were an attack against the developed world as a whole as well as an attack on America, though the collatoral was borne by the latter. Yesterday, nationalism got in the way of delivering a message that it is a "world war" against terrorism, not a US war with their allies as backup. Until that message is delivered the less likely that this tragedy can be converted into triumph.

In Asia, US embassies in Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur were closed. Most Asian newspapers gave major coverage to the cerenomies held around the world and in their own countries, though Arab countries providing relatively less blanket coverage.
